Shaken Beef & Watercress Salad - Bò Lúc Lắc Xà Lách Son

Dr. Dane cooks up a succulent Vietnamese favorite - Bò Lúc Lắc Xà Lách Son, also known as Shaken Beef & Watercress Salad.

How to Make Shaken Beef & Watercress Salad - Bò Lúc Lắc Xà Lách Son

This recipe yields 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 lbs beef tenderloins
  • 1 bunch (8 oz) watercress 
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 purple onions
  • 1/2 fresh lime
  • 2 tablespoons fried shallots
  • 3 tablespoons chopped garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chopped shallots
  • 1 teaspoon five spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Beef Marinade Prep: 

  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chopped shallots
  • 1 teaspoon five spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Marinate beef for 30 minutes

Watercress Salad Prep:

  • 1 bunch (8 oz) watercress 
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 purple onions
  • 2 tablespoons fried shallots
  • 1/2 fresh lime
  • 3 tablespoons Vietnamese dipping fish sauce

Instructions:

  • Add 2 - 3 TBS of vegetable oil in a hot pan (medium-high heat) 
  • Add marinated beef and sear for 1 minute on each side.  You can cook for less if you like it more rare! 
  • Once the beef is cooked, remove from pan and set aside in separate dish to let cool
  • Prepare your Watercress Salad by tossing all ingredients. 
  • Top salad with beef, garnish with fried shallots and serve!
